Year’s First Blackout Against Mater Dei

Girls’ varsity volleyball took on No. 1 in Southern California and No. 4 in the nation Mater Dei last Tuesday led by the co-captains, seniors Jamie Dailey and Sarah Lowey and junior Jade Blevins. The team fought hard against the very competitive team.

“The game against Mater Dei definitely could have gone better but for the first game of the season we came out and played a good game,” Lowey said.

While they note that there is room for improvement and they recorded a loss, the girls felt very proud of their performance.

“Even though I don’t think we played our best match, I am still really proud of how our team battled against one of the best teams in the state. The match definitely helped us figure out what skills we need to work on for our games in the future,” Dailey said.

The girls are looking forward to improving throughout the rest of the season. The team just moved up to CIF Division 3 and the girls are ready for the new challenge.

“Everyone has improved so much and all of the girls that are on the team are incredible people and players. I am looking forward to seeing how far we can go and how much we can improve,” Lowey continued.

Dailey echoed that thought. “I’m really looking forward to getting even closer with the team this season and to hopefully make a big run in CIF. This year’s team has a lot of potential and talent and we can’t wait to show everyone that.”

In addition to watching a thrilling game, fans in attendance were treated to The Burnt Truck, a gourmet food truck with sliders. The girls enjoy playing for their school and love seeing all the support and school spirit.

“Every year of high school I have looked forward to season! My favorite part is the level of competition and dedication that everyone has for the team,” Lowey said.

While the team is not yet scheduled to play Mater Dei again, fans can watch the girls take on St. Margaret’s next Friday at 5:15 p.m.
