A Bright Future for Boys’ Tennis

In 2015, the boys’ tennis team achieved an overall record of 15-6-0 and a league record of 7-1-0, capping off the season with a semifinal finish in CIFs.

“Last year’s season was one of my most enjoyable seasons on the team,” said senior captain Kenan Torlic. Though last season went well, Torlic strove to improve further this season.  “For this year, my goal was to have the team develop together and strive for a CIF finals appearance,” he said.

This season, the team faced initial obstacles with multiple key players suffering from injuries. Despite setbacks, the team stayed strong with the help of the new Sage tennis center, which encouraged support and involvement from many more students.

“The tennis facilities have been a very strong morale boost for the entire team,” said junior captain Adam Langevin.  “Because tennis is such a mental sport, and it is just you and your opponent, it is hard to fight alone.  Now, anyone can stop by and cheer on our team, helping our team fight much harder.”

According to Langevin, the team’s biggest threat was likely rival Crean Lutheran.  “It won’t be easy,” he said, but he hoped that the team’s strength combined with student support would be enough to earn the Academy League title.

Langevin felt confident in the future of the boys’ tennis team: “With more hype for tennis on campus, the more likely we are to attract strong players from the vast pool of tournament players looking for a strong tennis program.  This season’s future looks bright, and the following years are only going to get brighter.”
