Sage’s varsity football team lost to Capistrano Valley Christian School 7-42 on Sept. 13.

Game Highlights:

  • Sage Hill School’s varsity football team knew coming into the game that it would be challenged by Capistrano Valley Christian School’s players.
  • In the opening drive, Sage was faced with a 7-point deficit after a 59 yard run by Capistrano Valley’s Ben Sukut. Shortly after, brother Sam Sukut scored with the first of his 3 touchdowns.
  • The defense as a whole maintained its resolve after stopping the run and pass time after time. One small mistake meant a double digit run, as Sam Sukut demonstrated in a 90-yard drive to the end zone.
  • The same was true for Sage’s team, which forced 2 fumbles in the first half of the game. With 10 tackles and 3 assists, sophomore Jacob Fisher led the defense in tackles.  Senior Will Burns was close behind.
  • The root of defensive troubles was tackling, particularly because of Capistrano Valley Christian School’s explosive offense.
  • The team was also troubled on the offensive side of the ball.
  • The base of the offense could not create yards needed to put up points.  Juniors Beaumont Roth and Keith McCord II only totalled 58 combined yards.
  • Junior Vincent Wetmore also contributed to the special teams, offense and defense, putting up respectable return yards.
  • The pass protection of the offensive line allowed one sack and increased opportunity through the passing game, although a combination of dropped passes and missed opportunities contributed to Sage’s dilemma.
  • By the end of the game Sage was down 7-42.
  • The offense was more successful than the defense, although Sage Hill benefited from two fumble recoveries early in the third quarter.
