After defeating Edison High School 10-8, the girls’ varsity tennis team came in 4th place in the Lightning Invitational tournament on Sept. 7 at The Tennis Club.

Tesoro High School took 1st place, Newport Harbor High School came 2nd and St. Margaret’s Episcopal School finished in 3rd place.

They were tough competition.

Nearly tying with Newport Harbor High School and St. Margaret’s Episcopal School in a few rounds, the team fought extremely hard, but lost with their heads held high.

“We put up a fight. It wasn’t easy for these schools to defeat us,” junior Amira Tarsadia said. “We played our hearts out.”

Notable players included sophomore Connie Yu and junior Amira Tarsadia, who were chosen as the All Tournament Team from Sage Hill School in the invitational.

The next match for the team will be on Sept. 10 against Woodbridge High School.

“Even though we lost today, the team is stronger than they were at the start of this tournament,” tennis coach A.G. Longoria said. “We gained experience. Learning is one of the most important parts of tennis, and it’ll help us become better players.”
