Girls’ Varsity Volleyball Shuts Down St. Margaret’s

In a thrilling game last Friday, girls’ varsity volleyball beat St. Margaret’s 3-1. They were supported by hundreds of fans who came out to cheer on the team.

“I love seeing the team members feed of each other’s energy, and getting the whole school to rally behind this team and all the teams at Sage. The crowd really makes a difference at matches, and that atmosphere is unique to high school,” head coach Dan Thomassen said.

While the crowd is always supportive and an exciting part of games, the support of the fans is even more important during St. Margaret’s games. The girls enjoy playing the Tartans and they always play a competitive game.

“Playing St. Margaret’s is always so fun. I think our rivalry… went from having tension to now showing who has the most school spirit. It’s also always a battle. We’ll bring our A game and St. Margaret’s will too,” senior Sahar Rohani said. “At the end, you can tell we’re all just exhausted, even the coaches. The excitement just gets to you, physically and mentally.”

The team dynamic, as usual, is strong this season. They get along well and are both competitive and looking to have fun.

“The best part for me, now being on this team for four years and having four completely different teams, is how well we all get along. No matter who’s on the team we always have fun. There’s a perfect balance of intense competitiveness and goofing off,” Rohani said.

The girls played Oxford on Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. in the Ube. They are hoping for another win on Friday, as they are set to play Calvary Chapel Downey at 5:15 p.m. in the Ube again.
