The girls’ varsity tennis team kicked off its season this year with two big wins against Santa Margarita Catholic High School and Mater Dei.

“I’m very confident in these girls, and they are all working extremely hard and buying into what I’m coaching them,” said the new varsity head coach Cierra Gaytan.

The returning girls have been dedicated to the team and have been practicing off season and now are joined by two new freshmen on the varsity team, Miya Stauss and Karina Amber.

“Both have good experience. They’re nervous, but they’ve definitely been well integrated into the team,” said co-captain Michele Chen.

Specifically, Stauss won two out of her three matches against Mater Dei in the No. 3 singles spot. She is really looking forward to the season and is excited about the new coach.

“Our coach is incredible and the support system we have is like no other,” said Stauss. “I am so happy be playing tennis this season and honored to be representing Sage.”

The girls’ varsity tennis team has a their next tournament Friday Sept. 16 at 3:00 at Sage.
