From Humans of Sage Hill

Humans of Sage Hill first began as an art project, that required the use of digital mediums as a way to express art in a modernized way. It was inspired by Brandon Stanton’s page Humans of New York, which currently has more than 14 million likes on Facebook. Brandon Stanton changed the way people viewed people. New York City is known to be highly “impersonal,” where everyone has their own agenda based on their own time. However, Brandon slowed down the city, capturing rare moments and exposing genuine, whole-hearted stories of New Yorkers he encountered. It sparked a revolution across social media and eventually affected me, a girl from Orange County, with an art project to accomplish.

After the second photo I posted on Facebook, it wasn’t just an art project anymore. It was a personal journal into the lives of Sage Hill students. It gave light to individuals’ mindsets that alumni, teachers, parents and other attending Sage students we had never had the chance to hear or see. The page received a huge amount of positive responses from people within and outside the community. I brought my camera everywhere, everyday, trying to capture friendship, personalities, passions, and humor. As I step into my life as a senior in high school, I want to continue this project, not for a grade but for the sake of my peers and the beliefs they want to share.
