Cheers and screams fill the air. Five hundred sophomores and juniors are scattered into groups, volunteering for different organizations or learning leadership skills. The noise can be heard a mile away.

From June 7-9, senior Rochelle Rouhani and junior Brittany Murphy represented Sage Hill School at Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, also known as HOBY, at Chapman University.

Rouhani and Murphy listened to former HOBY alumnus speak, interviewed leaders in their community and learned skills necessary to benefit not only themselves but also their communities.

“HOBY has taught me that service to the community is easy when you take your passions and share them by serving others,” Rouhani said.

Rouhani, a leader of Sage Hill School’s debate team and Future Business Leaders of America club, as well as a junior counselor at HOBY credits much of her success in leadership to the program.

“HOBY was really influential in terms of overcoming adversity and obstacles,” Rouhani said. “Having unwavering enthusiasm and confidence can really take you a long way in pursuing your goals.”
