The Sage Hill student body elected a new president and vice president to lead Student Council for the upcoming year.
Incoming president, junior Ella Wong, and incoming vice president, sophomore Christian Lu, said they have big plans to raise school spirit through encouragement for student attendance at home sports games, improvements to student pep rallies, and more.
Ella enters her fourth year as a student council member, having previously served as freshman co-chair, sophomore co-chair and, most recently, vice president.
“I feel that I’ve learned how to communicate with large groups of people,” Ella said. “I love organizing and seeing events come alive, and I try to prioritize what students will want.”
Christian is a newcomer to student government at Sage Hill.
“I’m really excited,” Christian said. “I feel that being a leader at Sage means that you need to get to know most or all of the student body, and lead by example.”
Although Christian wasn’t “expecting” to win this election, he has wanted to pursue a student government leadership role in high school.
Being elected as president and vice president of student council will be Ella and Christian’s first time meeting, and together they plan to make sure all student voices are heard. Together, they plan on expanding the social media team, which was newly implemented this year by Ella, and also plan to bring back events that may have been lost in previous years, such as a ping pong tournament during lunch.
Ella and Christian aim to enrich student life, in an effort to make school more enjoyable with events such as a quilt-building activity to lower student stress levels, and school-wide lunch tournaments with games such as Brawl Stars and Block Blast.
