The Girls’ Tennis team after a league match

One word to describe Sage Hill Girls’ Varsity Tennis team? Dominance. The Lightning have won their Division 1 league the past four years. This year was an especially exceptional one. The team went 10-0 in league play and rolled over schools with very good tennis programs, including Saint Margaret’s Episcopal School and Fairmont Preparatory Academy. Their win percentage for the year was 93%.

Unfortunately for the Lightning, Morgan Mann, Hannah Herin, and Miranda DeBruyne (key seniors) will be graduating this spring and heading off to college in the fall. These seniors have had a great impact on the Varsity team and will be missed by many of the players.

“I don’t even want to think (about) the seniors leaving because they are the (people) that really bring the team together,” said junior Madison Dao. “They are willing to help you in any way. I will miss them so much next year.”

One of the best elements of this team is the chemistry they have together. The girls always watch one another’s matches and cheer each other on during practice.

“It’s like we are a family,” said freshman Alexis Ha. “I feel like I’ve known them my whole life. The tennis team is one of my favorite parts of Sage.”

This tennis team in particular has done extremely well in CIF play. They took 3 out of the 4 CIF Individual Championship spots. They look forward to making a strong push in CIF.

The Lightning will continue to thrive in tennis next year because of the depth that the roster contains. Make sure to catch a match! Go Lightning!
