Welcoming Laura Capolino
September 29, 2017
Laura Capolino joined our science department team this year, teaching chemistry and accelerated biology. Previously, Capolino had taught both middle and high school in Las Vegas and New York, and she served as the science department chair at Francis Parker School in San Diego.
“I was looking for a school that was non-denominational… Sage is also a really good academic school that looks for quality teachers,” Capolino said.
Capolino, who has a bachelor’s degree in pre-med and education and a master’s in science education from State University of New York College at Brockport, chose to pursue a career in the sciences because her favorite subject in high school was biology.
“You don’t have to be a man to do well in science and it doesn’t have to be so difficult,” Capolino said.
She is extremely dedicated to her teaching and really likes to have fun with her students in the classroom.
“If I’m not having fun then usually i don’t like what I’m doing,” she continued.
Her goal as a science educator is to teach kids an appreciation for science and encourage them to continue learning throughout their lives.
“Science is something that pertains to your body and the world around you, so having that love of learning and passion for just being curious is really important,” Capolino said.
Aside from her work, Capolino’s hobbies include yoga, running, cooking and spending quality time with her family. Students are really excited to have her on campus.
