Boys’ Basketball: Only the Beginning
Midway through the season, the boys’ basketball team is on pace for a playoff, and hopefully larger run. But winning games is not the most important part of the game. More importantly, the team has built a camaraderie lasting beyond the court.
“I love spending time with [my teammates] every day whether it’s during practice, playing a game, or having a team meal,” said sophomore captain and center Johnny King.
The season has been full of ups and downs, though the team is currently enjoying a 13 and 5 record while sitting with a 4 and 2 record in league play.
“The best moment of this season so far was beating Saint Margaret’s to get third place in a tournament with 16 teams,” King highlighted. “It’s big for us because we have only beaten them one other time in the past 16 years.”
Clearly, the boys’ team is having a memorable season, but they are not done yet. Once they make the CIF playoffs, they will need a lot more support from the community.
Because the other teams they play have so many fans cheering for them, the team needs a crowd’s “ support and energy in games to perform [their] best,” King commented.
The next home game is tonight against rival Crean Lutheran. Also, on Feb. 9 the team plays St. Margaret’s at home. All students in attendance at either game will receive a free t-shirt.
The school’s basketball team is, “looking to improve upon an already memorable season,” King noted. “Come out and support. It is something you will not want to miss!”
