Make-A-Wish Grants First Wish

Sage Hill’s Make-A-Wish Service Learning group recently reached their goal of raising $5,000 to grant their first wish.

Seniors Lara Steinwinter and Paige Burke, as well as junior Katelyn Harvey have worked hard to raise this money partnering with local business such as Gelson’s and Blaze Pizza in Fashion Island. Last year, they also received donations by setting up a booth at the Multicultural Fair.

Although the group does not know the specific wish that their money will grant, they will likely find out within the next few weeks.

The girls are extremely proud of the all they have done to raise this amount in only two years and have learned a lot along the way.

“If I were to go back, I wouldn’t have done Service Learning any other way. It has taught me a lot about teamwork and fundraising for the greater good of our community,” Burke said.

Even though two of the three will graduate in the Spring, they still have high hopes for next year and plan to recruit one or two new members.

“For the future, we want to continue to raise money and awareness to give the juniors a good start,” Steinwinter said.
