The application for new Publications Staff members went out March 25 via email to all current freshmen, sophomores and juniors. The application forms and teacher recommendations are due on or before Tuesday, April 22 at 3:15 p.m.

“We have the unique opportunity to return as many as 15 current staff members,” adviser Konnie Krislock said. “This year we are looking for a complimentary number, 15 to 20, to complete our staff.”

Publications Staff currently meets during X-Block, some lunchtimes and almost all pupil-free days during the year to meet deadlines for The Bolt, Storm and lightningboltonline.com, the new student website.

“Publications Staff is a real-world writing and production experience,” Krislock believes. “With three publications, and limited time to meet our deadlines, we are looking for people who want a project-centered environment and people who can work on their own to complete writing, design and photography assignments throughout the year.”

Krislock will select the editors-in-chief this month from current staff applications. Those EICs, then, will select next year’s staff which might include as many as 20 new members.

“We’re looking for someone creative and skilled,” said executive editor Nellie Hamadani. But more important than what you know is what you are willing to learn. “If you have the potential to learn and assume leadership roles you’ll fit in well,” explains managing editor junior Hawken Miller. “We want someone who can thrive in a team environment.”

Publications Staff members are encouraged to attend summer workshops: either Yearbooks@the Beach Aug. 2-6 or Newspapers2 Aug. 4-7. The summer workshops are valuable learning experiences for new members.

“Newspapers2 gave me my first journalism experience,” said executive editor junior Michelle Min. “And through publications I gained not only incredible opportunities and experiences, but also a new family.”
