Sage swimmers make a splash! They began training on Feb. 12 in the newly renovated aquatics center. They expect a year filled with tough competition, intense training, and fun with friends.

Their new coach, Pavle Filipovic, is excited for his first year running the program and hopes to lead the team to a successful season.

Filipovic has coached various teams, including Newport Harbor and Vanguard Aquatics, and also assists with the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program.

Students are also optimistic about the 2018 spring season; they anticipate making great memories with their classmates.

“I’m looking forward to joining the swim family…and spending more time with my peers outside of class,” sophomore Shreyra Chitoori said.

Similarly, freshman Connor Cohen said he is “excited to hang out with friends.”

The swim team is a close-knit group of students who share a common passion for the sport. They practice every day after school and several early mornings per week.

“I am most excited about the team bonding…It’s my last year and I just want to have fun,” senior Genesis Gonzalez said.

Currently, the team is preparing for their first home meet on March 2. It is an Intrasquad season kickoff, which will help gauge swimmers’ times.

The following meet will be held at the Sage Aquatics Center on March 6 against Portola Hills High School. Additional home competitions in March will be against Fullerton High School on March 13, Webb School on March 16, Crean Lutheran High School on March 20, and Saddleback Valley Christian on March 22.

See you at the pool!
